I love the juxtapositions that punctuate this original painting. The Liberty Belle riverboat, flanked by our flag of freedom, is positioned in contrast to The Haunted Mansion on the left, and Rapunzel’s Tower on the right.

The Haunted Mansion is thrills and chills of the ghostly that comically bring our thoughts to “the other side”. We are captivated by the sights and sounds of the dark and creepy spirits bound in their celebration of death.

Also “captivating”, we ponder Rapunzel being held prisoner for eighteen years in a tower, never outside in the light of day. In “Tangled” we observe the extremes of breaking free from a Stockholm Syndrome-like situation.

Then we journey The Liberty Belle, airy in the bright of day, a representation and reminder of the history and freedom we treasure in this wonderful country of ours, where we still honor the God-given liberty to choose.

“May we not think of freedom as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right.” – Peter Marshal, American preacher in the early 1900’s.
